SEGRO focuses on smart roofs

Following its trial roll-out in 2017, the company installed a roof sensor system in the second building of SEGRO Logistics Park Warsaw, Nadarzyn.

The sensors transmit data to Sense Smart Roofs, a platform for remote roof monitoring. This technology allows warehouse managers to control rooftop loads of snow or water, among other things, and to monitor leaks. Not only does the system improve safety, but it also generates savings on building management as it indicates precisely when snow must be removed.

The sensor-enabled system constantly measures the vertical roof deflection. The data is then transferred to the cloud, making it available online. Whenever some risk is detected, the system will alert relevant technical staff.

The roof monitoring system is another PropTech solution broadly used in SEGRO’s logistics parks.

“We are committed to driving innovation. As a result, our clients gain access to new technologies to optimize operations and bring operational costs downs, with substantial improvements to employee safety and wellbeing. We began implementing PropTech solutions several years ago, starting with LED lighting, followed by remote utilities control systems and access control systems for automatic number-plate recognition. The smart roof monitoring is another step forward. We are planning to have it installed in each park across Poland by the end of 2020,” says Waldemar Witczak, Regional Director at SEGRO.
