Zalando has officially opened it third fulfilment centre in Poland. The opening marks an important milestone in Zalando’s logistics network expansion, with two Polish fulfilment centres serving Zalando’s growing customer base and a warehouse in Olsztynek taking care of Zalando Lounge deliveries.
Measuring 130,000 sqm, the fulfilment centre in Gluchow is one of the largest logistics sites in Poland, housing similar cutting-edge intralogistics as Zalando’s second Polish logistics centre in Szczecin. For example, two five-storey high pick towers that store over a dozen million items at once. High standards in automation are reached with four “Optimus Sorters”, which sort items to the respective order.
The fulfilment centre is managed by the external provider DHL Supply Chain, which already employs around 1,200 people for the operational work on-site. In the long term, DHL Supply Chain is planning to create approximately 2,500 jobs. The site will be handling orders mainly from Poland, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic.
The factors that determined Gluchow as a location for Zalando’s fulfilment centre in Poland have been primarily high employment potential, good geographical location and infrastructure with a direct connection to the S1 and S12 expressways. Another key influencer on the decision for Gluchow has been the vital cooperation based on mutual trust and respect with the region and the municipality of Tuszyn.
